About Us

The Rio Americano Band program consists of three basic programs: Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Instrumental Ensemble. These programs offer a wide range of music education and performance from beginning to advanced levels. First and foremost, the goal that we all have here is to teach our students the love of music and to give them the skills they need to enjoy it for a lifetime. This is done in a positive and creative atmosphere that promotes self discipline, independent thought, teamwork, and self esteem.

The band program is nationally recognized, having 4 levels of concert band and 3 levels of jazz ensemble. The AM Jazz Ensemble was recognized as one the United States' top 15 high school jazz bands at the Essentially Ellington Competition and Festival in New York City in 2001, 2002, 2006, and 2007. The Rio Americano AM Jazz Ensemble has also won the Monterey Jazz Festival in the High School Big Band category an unprecendented 7 times. They have toured Japan, Europe and most recently China in the summer of 2006. The band program is scheduling a tour of Australia in the summer of 2008.
